How this wine tastes
In 1971, Marchese Piero Antinori launched the first Tignanello, blending Sangiovese with international grape varieties and ageing the wine in barriques.
The grapes are harvested by hand and separated by variety. The Cabernet franc is picked first, followed a little later by the Sangiovese, and finally the Cabernet Sauvignon. After gentle destemming and crushing of the grapes, the must ferments in 50-hl wooden vats, followed by malolactic fermentation in new French barriques. The young wines, still kept separate by variety, are then aged in French and Hungarian barriques for 14 to 16 months. The barriques are partly new, partly already used once. After blending the different lots, the young Tignanello rests and refines for several more months before being bottled.
01/Colour
Deep ruby red
02/Nose
On the nose, a dense layer of aromas, cedarwood, warm spices and herbs, paired with notes of liquorice and black fruit. Alongside these nose aromas come compact fruit and a touch of leather.
03/Palate
On the palate, a powerful, energetic start, yet smooth. Juicy acidity, structuring tannins of top quality. The finish is balanced with long, aromatic persistence.
