How this wine tastes

The white grape variety Cortese is grown mainly in the south-east of Piedmont. The Cortese wine with the highest reputation is Gavi di Gavi. Originally it was grown for the fish restaurants in Genoa and along the Ligurian coast. In the 1970s it was one of the 'cult wines'. Today the DOCG Gavi stands for dry white wine and Spumante from the eponymous municipality. The zone covers over 1,200 hectares of vineyard area. The quality of the wines has developed in recent years. Significantly lower yields give the Gavi more body.
