Rioja El Coto DOC Crianza Selectión Viñedos

A harmonious wine that is very well balanced in both taste and aroma. It is very velvety and soft, with the vanilla note typical of Rioja from ageing in fresh oak. El Coto's Crianza is aged for over 12 months in American oak barriques and spends a further five months in the bottle before release. El Coto came about as a project of several people interested in wine and committed to Rioja, who, together with newly hired staff, took care of running the bodega and ensuring the quality of the wine. The first wine was made in 1970 and brought to market in 1975. At that time, the bodega owned 11,000 m2 of land. Two years later, the decision was made to expand the winery. The birthplace of El Coto Crianza, made exclusively from Tempranillo grapes, lies on the chalky soils of Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa. Our vineyards are located in Cenicero (Rioja Alta), near the Najerilla river. They face north-east and are predominantly on clay soils. The remainder of our grapes come from selected winegrowers in Rioja Alavesa.
