How this wine tastes
The unconventional winemaker Alain Brumont cultivates the ancient, small-berried, indigenous grape variety Tannat in Madiran in south-western France. Brumont has succeeded in taming this strongly astringent, high-tannin grape variety in the best plots of the terroir – in Montus with its stony, steep south-facing slopes, in the Boucassé plateaus with their ironstone and manganese soils, and in Gascogne with its limestone subsoil. He carefully processes it in new barriques into refined, discreet and extremely long-lived wines with powerful fruit.
01/Colour
Black-red with light violet reflections.
02/Nose
Medium-intense on the nose with lovely complexity. Berry notes such as cassis, blueberry and blackberry dominate, followed by cherry and plum along with light dried-fruit aromas such as prune and raisin. Also some spice such as liquorice and vanilla, roasted aromas and leather.
03/Palate
Dry on the palate with some tannin reserve. Harmonious and full-bodied, also multi-layered with a touch of pepper and tarry notes. The wine shows a long finish.
