The Sylvaner develops its excellent qualities on dry, gravelly soils, which it finds on selected slopes of Valais. The Sylvaner originally comes from Transylvania. The wine from these grapes is known in Valais under the name Johannisberg. After Chasselas, Johannisberg is the most widely grown white grape variety here.
