Balcón de Pilatos is one of the most iconic vineyards of Bodega Valdemar and is an outstanding site for the highly characterful Maturana grape.
Bodegas Valdemar is a family-run business with a long tradition. Founded in 1889, the company is now run by the fourth generation. Since the 1980s, Valdemar has been a benchmark in Rioja. Not least because they were the first winery in Europe to introduce fermentation temperature control at that time. Today, Valdemar is one of the most renowned producers in the Rioja region. This is thanks to a combination of long-standing winemaking tradition and constant efforts in research.
01/Colour
Deep red colour with cherry-red tones and violet reflections.
02/Nose
On the nose, the distinctive and expressive profile of the Maturana grape shows in complex, intense aromas of ripe black fruits, underpinned by fine notes of spice and liquorice.
03/Palate
Soft and well-balanced on the palate, with a pleasantly firm grip, followed by liquorice and harmoniously integrated toasty notes. Elegant, structured and full-bodied, with a very long and pleasant finish.
