Domaine de Marcy
Eight hectares in Saint-Prex, entire harvest by hand, no herbicides.
Get to know Domaine de Marcy
In 1920, Jean Locher came from Aargau to the Vaud. In 1978 Aimé Locher bought the estate, in 1992 Roland Locher took over, and in 1994 came the first vintage vinified and bottled in-house. Today Roland and Barbara Locher, together with Matteo Beutler, farm eight hectares on Lake Geneva, four of them on the Coteau de Marcy.
Everything by hand, nothing synthetic
The estate puts it plainly itself: the entire harvest is picked by hand. No herbicide, no artificial fertiliser, no synthetic agents. The estate does not carry an organic label, but describes its working method in exactly these terms. The plots lie on the Coteau de Marcy, on the lakeshore, in St-Livres and in the Vallon de l'Aubonne. The appellations are La Côte AOC and St-Prex Grand Cru.
Hommage, from a plot nobody wanted
In 2004, a plot considered too steep became available. Roland Locher took it on. After the accidental death of his brother Stéphane, an oenologist and discerning taster, he planted there the Savagnin Blanc that his brother had wished for. This is how the «Hommage» line came about.
A dozen varieties on eight hectares
For an estate of this size, the variety of grapes is exceptional: Chasselas, Gamay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Gamaret, Syrah, Savagnin Blanc and Chenin Blanc. At the Sélection des Vins Vaudois 2024, the estate took second place each for Gamay and Pinot Noir, while the Chasselas passerillé 2002 earned two stars in the Guide Hachette.
