How this spirit tastes
William Grant, then father of nine, fulfilled his lifelong dream in the summer of 1886 and built a whisky distillery by hand, naming it after the "valley of the deer" (in Gaelic: Glenfiddich). A logo was quickly found: a stag with an impressive set of antlers adorns every bottle label. Even today, great importance is placed on traditional craftsmanship in Dufftown, on the edge of the Scottish Highlands. From the mash man to the still man to the cooper, every member of staff ensures that Glenfiddich whiskies become quality products. There is even a dedicated coppersmith, who looks after all 28 copper stills in which the 80% new make spirit is produced.
01/Nose
Intense sweet vanilla, floral notes and a hint of banana and fig. Rich toffee, new leather and oak round off the bouquet.
02/Palate
Soft and smooth body. On the palate, light smoky notes appear, accompanied by aromas reminiscent of spice, lime and ginger. Long, warm and dry-spicy finish.
