Kirk and Sweeney Reserva Dominican Rum

This rum takes its name from the sailing ship "Kirk and Sweeney", which, in the early years of American Prohibition, was best known for smuggling rum from the Caribbean to the north-east of the USA. The rum is produced by the company 35 Maple Street Spirits, north of San Francisco. The shape of the bottle is inspired by the broad-bellied onion bottles of the 18th century, which could be wrapped in a hemp net and simply hung up for transport by ship. The bottle also bears a print of an old nautical chart showing the main rum-smuggling routes. The "Kirk and Sweeney" Rum has a sweet nose of honey and earthy sugar cane, joined by generous aromas of oak and dried fruit. Unlike its predecessors, the Riserva Rum was not matured using the Solera method, but rather consists of a blend of rums aged for varying lengths of time. The ageing period ranges from 3 to 14 years, carried out in casks of American and French oak.
