How this wine tastes
The Chilean winery is located in Caliboro (Maule Region), about 300 km south of Santiago de Chile. It was founded in 2001 by winemaker Pilar Miranda Avendaño, her wine-mad husband Derek Mossmann and long-time friend Alvaro Peña – effectively in a garage. What began then as a project the size of a small family business was expanded into a proper winery through the purchase of ever more parcels. Pilar, Derek and Alvaro now cultivate around 35 hectares of vineyard, spread across 16 different sites. That also means 16 different wines, as Garage Wine Co. is a pure «single vineyard project».
01/Colour
Bordeaux red
02/Nose
On the nose, aromas of dark berries (plums, blackberries). Accompanied by refined spice notes, a touch of orange peel and subtle smoky hints.
03/Palate
Very compact on the palate, the tannins are enormously smooth, and thanks to a small proportion of whole-bunch fermentation there is added tart freshness. Wonderfully smooth, fruity and underlaid with oriental spices in the long finish.
