Lu'Li Appassite - Masca del Tacco

Made using an ancient growing technique, likely developed even before winemaking itself and the cultivation of the Vitis Vinifera grapevine. It involves leaving the grapes on the vine beyond full ripeness, allowing them to lose water and concentrate sugars and acids, making the grapes more robust for longer storage. This technique reached Apulia, and in the Salento area it was understood that pressing raisined grapes produced a richer, more concentrated must, resulting in a sturdier, longer-lasting wine – very important qualities for trade at that time. For this reason, the technique has earned its place in tradition, and this is why we make our LuLi: a full-bodied wine, satisfying and long-lived, celebrating the tradition, the work and the people who have contributed so much to the history of this land.

Masca del Tacco was founded in 2010 by Armando and Felice Mergè, though its roots go back to 1949 and the Cantina di Erchie. Felice, grandson of wine lover Manlio Mergè, carries on the family tradition. The estate in Erchie (Salento) covers 50 hectares. The Mediterranean climate and mineral-rich soils create ideal conditions, allowing the wines to perfectly reflect the region – aromatic, balanced and full of joie de vivre.
