Get to know Cantina Cellaro

Cantina Cellaro is the winegrowers' cooperative of Sambuca di Sicilia in western Sicily, founded in 1969, with its own bottling since 1980. According to the cooperative, over 600 members cultivate around 1,500 hectares on the hills around Lago Arancio.

One village, one winery

For over half a century, Cellaro has been the village's only cooperative winery. Since late 2024, the president has been Melchiorre Cacioppo, who sat on the board for over twenty years before the general assembly elected him to the top.

The leap onto the world market

In 2010, the cooperative entered into a partnership with the Fantini Group from Abruzzo, which took over worldwide distribution. Within a decade, production quadrupled to four million bottles. The best-known lines are Lumà and Micina, with Nero d'Avola and Grillo as the leading grape varieties.

New at Etna

In 2025, Cellaro took its first step beyond western Sicily: its own Etna DOC line with Bianco, Rosato and Rosso from the volcano's northern slope near Randazzo, in collaboration with local winegrowers.
