Get to know Weingut Salzl

At the Weingut Salzl, three generations live out their passion for winegrowing. In the unique landscape of Neusiedler See-Seewinkel, characterful white, red and sweet wines emerge that reflect the warmth and vastness of the region. Salzl stands for Burgenland wine culture at the highest level.

Tradition since 1840

The winemaking tradition of the Salzl family dates back to 1840. Heribert Salzl was one of the first to focus purely on winemaking and achieved early success with white and sweet wines. In the 80s, Josef Salzl shifted the focus to red wine and established the estate among the best Austrian wineries. Since 2005, Christoph Salzl has been actively involved, impressively continuing the family tradition with pure varietal top wines such as the Zweigelt «Sacris».

Terroir in a UNESCO World Heritage Site

Growing wine in a UNESCO World Heritage region and within the national park is both a privilege and a responsibility for the Salzl family. The unique terroir (microclimate, salt-laden air, sand, gravel and black earth soils, and plenty of sunshine) lends the wines freshness, minerality and depth.

Sustainable for future generations

Careful selection of sites, sustainable working methods and renewable energy demonstrate the family's appreciation for their homeland and nature. Each grape variety is carefully matched to soil, climate and site. The result is a diverse range in which fruit, density and origin are clearly reflected.
